- IN PROGRESS -Project Partners: City of Traverse City Restoration and other improvements along the Boardman River shoreline at Hannah Park in Traverse City will be one of the most visible projects TWC will be working on this year. The City of Traverse City will be retrofitting 4 stormwater outfalls in the vicinity of Hannah Park this coming year with devices that utilize ‘swirl’ technology to remove a large portion of sediment and petroleum based products (oil, gas, grease, etc.) from stormwater. In addition to stormwater improvements, we will be conducting other types of restoration work with the City and the Grand Traverse Conservation District at Hannah Park. Planned activities include: - Restoring eroding areas of streambank
- Planting 1,300 feet of vegetated stream buffer
- Installing several fishing platforms for recreational access to the river
Vegetative buffers are extremely important along rivers and other waterways to reduce the impacts of pollutants in stormwater runoff and provide bank stabilization. Currently, the park has mowed grass up to the edge of the riverbank and several areas of the streambank are eroding into the Boardman River.
