Stream Bank Restorations

North Branch of Boardman River

We worked with the Grand Traverse Conservation District to restore streambanks at four locations along the North Branch of the Boardman River. Three sites were state land access sites. The fourth was at  Twin Birch Golf Course, in conjunction with fairway reshaping and buffer installation.

Almost 100 feet of streambank was restored along the North Branch of the Boardman River, excluding the Twin Birch site.

Kids Creek

We worked with the Grand Traverse Conservation District to restore four stream bank erosion sites totaling approximately 180 feet along Kids Creek. Two of the sites were adjacent to the Meijer and Burger King along US 31 in Traverse City. The remaining two were adjacent to Munson Hospital’s parking lot in Traverse City. These two sites were restored with a riparian buffer planting to further protect the creek from bank erosion and runoff.

Restoration on these four sites included installing 128 feet of fish habitat lunker structures, 50 lineal feet of bio logs used for bank stabilization and as a base for vegetative plantings, and approximately 10 cubic yards of rock rip-rap.

Boardman River at Traverse City Farmers Market

We worked with the City of Traverse City to restore approximately 700 feet of stream bank along the Boardman River in downtown Traverse City near the popular Farmers Market. There was extensive bank erosion at this site, exacerbated by foot traffic from people going down to the river and increasing numbers of ducks walking up the eroding bank to the market area looking for food handouts.  We installed large rocks that discourage waterfowl from walking up banks, while still allowing pedestrian traffic down to the river.
