Kids Creek

The Watershed Center Grand Traverse Bay has been working on Kids Creek-related projects since 2003 and work continues today. Currently, a 2-mile portion of Kids Creek is on Michigan’s Impaired Waters List due to sedimentation, flow alteration and other human-caused activities – all of which are related to stormwater runoff.

For the past 15  years, The Watershed Center has proudly worked to restore and repair Kids Creek to being a healthy, functioning stream on Traverse City’s west side.

Over the past 15 years, we have invested $5.2 million from 13 sources to improve water quality with the ultimate goal of removing Kids Creek from Michigan’s List of Impaired Waters.

Kids Creek Restoration Project: Our efforts include many discrete projects that tackle various elements of Kids Creek, from reconnecting floodplains to installing vegetative buffers to reducing stormwater runoff by installing green roofs. Learn more here.

Kids Creek Week: In celebration of this cherished stream on Traverse City’s west side, we are hosting seven days of activities. Registration may be required as space is limited; see the poster below. To register or learn more, contact Shelli DiFranco at sdifranco@gtbay.org or 231-935-1514 ext. 5.
