Kids Creek

The Watershed Center has been working on Kids Creek-related projects since 2003 and work continues today. Currently, a 4-mile portion of Kids Creek is on Michigan’s Impaired Waters List due to sedimentation, flow alteration, and other human-caused activities – all of which are related to stormwater runoff. We have proudly worked to restore and repair Kids Creek to being a healthy, functioning stream on Traverse City’s west side. We have invested nearly $8 million from over a dozen sources to improve water quality with the ultimate goal of removing Kids Creek from Michigan’s List of Impaired Waters.

Kids Creek Restoration Project

Our efforts include many discrete projects that tackle various elements of Kids Creek, from reconnecting floodplains to installing vegetative buffers to reducing stormwater runoff by installing green roofs. Learn more here.
